Verreydt and the « Nivea » Toyota Corolla in 1987: quite a poem…

After trying his hand in a Sunbeam TI, Renaud Verreydt made a name for himself on the Belgian rally scene in 1987 at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla GT type AE86 prepared by Breuer in Saint-Vith and sporting the Nivea for men livery.

Already 6th in the Boucles de Spa Alphonse Delettre at the start of the year, the « poet from Villers-le-Temple » ended the Inter championship season on a high note with 4th place on home soil in the Rallye du Condroz.

Now owned by Jean Vandeghen, this ex-Emmanuel Eggermont Corolla GT – which took part in the Roger Albert Clark Rally – is a beautiful replica of Renaud Verreydt’s 1987 car.

Equipped with a dogbox transmission and a powerful engine, it is sure to delight Rally 4 Passion spectators and fans of the man who remains one of the popular Belgian rally drivers.

Verreydt en de Toyota Corolla Nivea in 1987: een gedicht…

Na een Sunbeam TI maakte Renaud Verreydt naam in de Belgische rallywereld in 1987 aan het stuur van een Toyota Corolla GT type AE86, geprepareerd door Breuer in Saint-Vith en voorzien van de Nivea for men-kleuren.

De « dichter van Villers-le-Temple », die aan het begin van het jaar al 6e was in de Boucles de Spa Alphonse Delettre, sloot het seizoen van het Inter-kampioenschap af met een 4e plaats op eigen bodem in de Rallye du Condroz.

Deze ex-Emmanuel Eggermont Corolla GT – die deelnam aan de Roger Albert Clark Rally – is nu eigendom van Jean Vandeghen en is een prachtige replica van de auto van Renaud Verreydt uit 1987.

Uitgerust met een « dogbox » versnellingsbak en een krachtige motor, zal hij zeker in de smaak vallen bij Rally 4 Passion toeschouwers en fans van de man die een van de lievelingen van de Belgische rallysport blijft.

Après avoir fourbi ses armes en Sunbeam TI, Renaud Verreydt s’est définitivement fait un nom sur la scène belge du rallye en 1987 au volant d’une Toyota Corolla GT type AE86 préparée par Breuer à Saint-Vith, et arborant les couleurs de Nivea for men.

Déjà 6e des Boucles de Spa Alphonse Delettre en début d’année, le « poète de Villers-le-Temple » concluait la saison du championnat Inter en beauté avec la 4e place à domicile, au Rallye du Condroz.

Propriété aujourd’hui de Jean Vandeghen, cette Corolla GT ex-Emmanuel Eggermont – qui a notamment disputé à son volant le Roger Albert Clark Rally –, est une très belle réplique de la monture de Renaud Verreydt en 1987.

Dotée d’un boîte à crabots taille droite et d’un moteur performant, elle ne manquera pas de ravir les spectateurs du Rally 4 passion et les fans de celui qui reste l’un des chouchous du rallye belge.

In honour of Walter Röhrl and his victory at Ypres in 1976

Before becoming a world rallying legend, winning two world titles – in 1980 and 1982 – Walter Röhrl spent several seasons defending Opel’s colours on the international stage.

In 1976, in addition to several world events, he contested a European campaign at the wheel of a Group 4 Opel Kadett GT/E with the support of the brand’s major European dealers. His car bore the colours of the Opel Euro Händlerteam.

In the European Rally Championship, he claimed a superb victory in the 24 Hours of Ypres. A few days before his victory in the Westhoek, he had paid a visit to the local partner of this participation, the Opel Mottrie garage in Ypres.

A superb tribute to this Opel Kadett GT/E Gr.4, the car bought by Patrick Gilkinet from Marcel Laval in 2022 is a very fine replica, high-performance and well known to rally fans. At Rally 4 Passion, Patrick Gilkinet will be assisted by Benoît Gillet.

Ter ere van Walter Röhrl en zijn overwinning in Ieper in 1976

Voor hij een wereldrallylegende werd en twee wereldtitels won – in 1980 en 1982 – verdedigde Walter Röhrl verschillende seizoenen de kleuren van Opel op het internationale podium.

In 1976 nam hij, naast verschillende WK-wedstrijden, deel aan een Europese campagne achter het stuur van een Groep 4 Opel Kadett GT/E met de steun van de belangrijkste Europese dealers van het merk. Zijn auto droeg de kleuren van het Opel Euro Händlerteam.

In het Europees Rallykampioenschap behaalde hij een schitterende overwinning in de 24 Uren van Ieper. Enkele dagen voor zijn overwinning in de Westhoek had hij een bezoek gebracht aan de lokale partner van deze deelname, de Opel Mottrie garage in Ieper.

Prachtig eerbetoon aan deze Opel Kadett GT/E Gr.4, de auto die Patrick Gilkinet in 2022 kocht van Marcel Laval is een zeer mooie replica, performant en welbekend bij rallyfans. Tijdens Rally 4 Passion zal Patrick Gilkinet worden bijgestaan door Benoît Gillet.

En l’honneur de Walter Röhrl et de sa victoire à Ypres en 1976

Avant de devenir une légende du rallye mondial, remportant deux titres mondiaux – en 1980 et 1982 –, Walter Röhrl a défendu durant plusieurs saisons les couleurs d’Opel sur la scène internationale.

En 1976, il disputait en plus de plusieurs épreuves mondiales une campagne européenne au volant d’une Opel Kadett GT/E Groupe 4 avec le soutien notamment de grands dealers de la marque en Europe. Sa monture portait ainsi les couleurs du « Opel Euro Händlerteam ».

En Championnat d’Europe des Rallyes, il remportait une superbe victoire aux 24 Uren van Ieper. Quelques jours avant de s’imposer dans le Westhoek, il avait rendu visite au partenaire local de cette participation, le garage Opel Mottrie à Ypres.

Superbe hommage à cette Opel Kadett GT/E Gr.4, la monture rachetée en 2022 par Patrick Gilkinet à Marcel Laval est une très belle réplique, performante et bien connue des amateurs de rallye. Au Rally 4 Passion, Patrick Gilkinet sera secondé par Benoît Gillet.

An iconic livery for this Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A…

In rallying, certain colours have become iconic. This is certainly the case for the colours worn by Russell Brookes’ various cars, which are inextricably linked to the ‘Andrews – Heat for Hire’ livery.

Sadly no longer with us since 2019, the British driver secured in 1974 a sponsorship that was to follow him throughout his career, that of a heating and air-conditioning equipment hire company: Andrews.

On his Ford Escort, then Talbot Lotus, Vauxhall Chevette, Opel Manta 400, Opel Kadett and various models of Ford Sierra, the multiple British Rally Champion was to make the famous colours of his partner known on an international scale.

A keen motor sports enthusiast, Frenchman Dominique Sibieude has competed in motocross, autocross and ice racing. A talented mechanic, he has also worked in MotoGP and endurance racing. A few years ago, he embarked on the superb project of creating a replica of this emblematic Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A ‘Andrews – Heat for Hire’, at the 1989 Lombard RAC Rally.

Rally 4 Passion spectators will be able to see this superb creation on 26 and 27 April. Dominique Sibieude will be joined on his right-hand side, as he was at the Alsace Rallye Festival, by Éric Varrey.

Een iconische kleurstelling voor deze Ford Sierra Cosworth…

In de rallysport zijn bepaalde kleuren iconisch geworden. Dat geldt zeker voor de kleuren van de verschillende auto’s van Russell Brookes, die onlosmakelijk verbonden zijn met de ‘Andrews – Heat for Hire’-kleuren.

De Britse coureur, die er sinds 2019 helaas niet meer is, verzekerde zich in 1974 van de sponsoring van het verhuurbedrijf van verwarmings- en airconditioningapparatuur Andrews.

Op zijn Ford Escort, daarna Talbot Lotus, Vauxhall Chevette, Opel Manta 400, Opel Kadett en verschillende modellen van Ford Sierra, maakte de meervoudig Brits Rallykampioen de beroemde kleuren van zijn partner internationaal bekend.

De Fransman Dominique Sibieude is een fervent motorsportliefhebber en heeft meegedaan aan motorcross, autocross en ijsraces. Als getalenteerd monteur heeft hij ook gewerkt in de MotoGP en enduranceraces. Een paar jaar geleden begon hij aan het prachtige project om een replica te maken van deze emblematische Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A ‘Andrews – Heat for Hire’, tijdens de Lombard RAC Rally van 1989.

Bezoekers van Rally 4 Passion kunnen deze prachtige creatie bekijken op 26 en 27 april. Dominique Sibieude wordt aan zijn rechterzijde vergezeld door Éric Varrey, net als tijdens het Alsace Rally Festival.

Une livrée emblématique pour cette Ford Sierra Cosworth…

En rallye, certaines couleurs sont devenues iconiques. C’est assurément le cas de celles arborées par les différentes voitures de Russell Brookes, qui est indissociable de la livrée « Andrews – Heat for Hire ».

Hélas disparu en 2019, le pilote britannique décrochait en 1974 un sponsor qui allait le suivre durant toute sa carrière, celui d’une entreprise de location de matériel de chauffage et de climatisation : Andrews.

Sur ses Ford Escort, puis Talbot Lotus, Vauxhall Chevette, Opel Manta 400, Opel Kadett et divers modèles de Ford Sierra, le multiple Champion de Grande-Bretagne des Rallyes allait faire connaître à l’échelle internationale les célèbres couleurs de son partenaire.

Passionné de sports mécaniques, le Français Dominique Sibieude a couru en motocross, en autocross et participé à des courses sur glace. Mécanicien de talent, il a aussi exercé en MotoGP en en Endurance. Voici quelques années, il s’est lancé dans ce superbe projet de créer une réplique de cette emblématique Ford Sierra Cosworth Gr.A « Andrews – Heat for Hire », lors du Lombard RAC Rally 1989.

Une superbe réalisation que le public de Rally 4 Passion pourra découvrir ces 26 et 27 avril. À cette occasion, Dominique Sibieude retrouvera à sa droite, comme à l’Alsace Rallye Festival, son complice Éric Varrey.

Remember: Bruno Thiry at the Boucles de Spa 1988…

Although he had already amply demonstrated his talent in 1987, the year following his revelation in the Citroën Visa Trophy, Bruno Thiry made a definitive name for himself on the Belgian rally scene in 1988 at the wheel of a car that left a lasting impression: the Citroën Visa 1000 Pistes in the colours of the insurance company Sobelfa.

Bruno Thiry and Dany Delvaux began their Belgian season with a superb podium finish in the Boucles de Spa, behind the powerful Gr.A cars of Patrick Snijers (BMW M3 E30) and ‘Vande’ (Sierra RS Cosworth).

Based on a Citroën Visa Chrono, this replica of Bruno Thiry’s car at Spa is a fine tribute, imbued with an enormous amount of passion. Owned by Alain Collins, who first acquired it (he bought it 3 times…) in the early 2000s, this Citroën Visa has been sporting a beautiful Sobelfa livery since 2018. This livery was given to it by another rally personality, the late Bruno Blaise. And to complete the illusion, the real bumper from the 1000 Pistes.

In short, when you see this Citroën Visa Replica « Thiry/Delvaux – Boucles de Spa 1988 » at Rally 4 Passion, in the hands of Alain Collins and Christophe Sanzot, there’s no doubt that many will see great memories come flooding back!
